Presumed to be written after meeting on 21st April, 2012.
Attended a Compass meeting in Nottingham on Saturday, if not cos I shared the political aims, but to at least hear some discussion.
The meeting was about plan B, and certainly something is needed, even if I don't share the condemnation of PFIs.
I was pleased to hear Glenis Willmott MEP talking about tackling the defence of the minimum wage and raising concerns over trans-fats.
In a room with so many things to say, it was inevitable that the ideas that came forward were to be wide-ranging and scattered. And even some of the conspiratorial points - some of the world's money has gone missing - rings true - how is it in the 21st century, when our ability to produce has never been better, that money and resources is not available to meet the needs of the many? So frustrating.
I was pleased to report that all is not over for progressive causes - including Nottingham becoming the second city to introduce a major form of congestion charging. Workplace Parking Levy came in on April 1st. Too early to say what the full impact is (schools have been on holiday), although it would seem more people intend to use the bicycle to work, and good thing too.
