Cycling has grown by a sixth in the last 4 years and the aim is to increase it by another half. I attended the launch of a new cycling plan for Nottingham, paid for in part by Workplace Parking Levy.
Roving Surgery and next canvass session
Roving Surgery on Friday became a canvassing session, this time on Meredith Close and Colliery Close.
Nicola and I have sent in over 10 points for action.
The next Nottingham canvassing session in the Meadows is set for Sunday 22nd July at 2pm.
Crime, on every indicator, is down by a half in the Meadows in the last 12 months
This fall in crime, during a recession, withy higher unemployment and cuts in benefits and services, is kinda counter-intuitive.
The Police have a new Inspector and a new Acting Sergeant for the Meadows.
Demolition of crosswall housing and Q-Blocks
Dates of demolition are soon to be announced.
Plans for the regeneration of sites are being developed.
Consultation is to take place at the next NEMTRA meeting on 12th July.
School places
We are aware of pressure for children at reception level to find places in local schools, even though Welbeck is being expanded.
We are working to minimise the numbers who have to go outside the Meadows.
It’s becoming clear that this pressure will continue and we now have explore increasing capacity further.
Tipping
We have been chasing a number of sites. Wilford Crescent East seems to have improved.
Ditto, behind the charity shop, where there are prosecutions being made. I have been working with a party member on problems on Hatley Close. We now have to chase hot spots on Meredith Close and Woolmer Road.
Street lighting
Continues to be welcomed. So always mention it on the doorstep. Brighter, better focussed, and greener.
2 extra columns were put in as a result of points made by local residents.
Meadows Advice Group
Cameron has got in a right pickle over tax avoidance. Laying into Jimmy Carr for the scheme he was involved in, and making the moral case against tax avoidance; overlooking how his father made millions devising tax avoidance schemes.
Meanwhile, he’s talking about cutting support for even more people, beyond the challenging changes being made next year.
Our advice to people is to call or visit the Meadows Advice Group to maximise the support they can draw on in these difficult times.http://www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=3639
Meadows Partnership Trust
Their public meeting heard progress from the Police, Nottingham City Homes, our parks people, the tram project officers, councillors and others.
The new format allows more news to be shared and gave space for residents to discuss details with officers in private.
Paddy Tipping is our candidate
Paddy Tipping is our candidate for the Police and Community Safety Commissioner.
The election is on 15th November.
Registration forms have just gone out – early cos of this election – so make sure you register quickly and if you think you may be busy on a dark, late Autumn’s day, ask for a postal vote too.
Paddy knows the Meadows well, having lived for some years on Bathley Street.
Paddy has attended recent meetings in the Meadows and helped in the by-elections.
City Centre residents’ issues
Action has been taken on street drinking near Brightmoor Court.
There is a meeting to be held for Cliff Road residents about getting football going on the local park.
The City Centre Area Cttee is to take a full update on residents’ facilities within the city centre at its next meeting.
