Presumed to be a write-up of a home game against Rotherham United; 14th April, 2012. Having chastised my club last week, despite being in the top three, it was nice to see flowing attacking moves that led to the team scoring three goals. It would be arrogant and wrong to suggest my blog entry prompted a change so let's move on. To say how much I enjoyed the tribute to the manager Graham Turner, including showing his 1979 4th round FA Cup goal against Cambridge United. A memorable header from an angle and from quite a way out. Just great - I was in the line of the ball as it soared in. He is a legend for the club, and my only concern with legends coming back is the loss of the magic if it goes sour. Meanwhile, I thought football took a step backwards with 2 glaring examples of "sportsmanship this weekend. One, as for the second Man U home match in a row, a forward got a penalty through diving, and the other, when the Chelsea- Spurs ref gave a goal despite ITV showing the ball being stopped a yard out by a player wearing fluorescent boots and the ref having the best view on the pitch (Mata wheeling away as if it had gone in may not have helped). It's pointless calling for refs to be consistent cos it ain't possible, but there is opportunity for correction and consistency in post-match reviews and in asking for ref's assessments of the games to be published. The aim of such a review process would not be to correct what's gone, but stamping out "sportsmanship" could be achieved - for the top flights of the game.
