Bridge ward progress report - November, 2011

Updated: Jul 27, 2020

Originally shared on 17th November, 2011, 12:31. Respect for The Meadows and the city centre

Clean & Green

Fly-tipping - Nicola and Mike are working with residents to tackle 'grot spots' where fly-tipping occurs. Extra measures are being taken to catch fly-tippers. The council will arrange to collect bulky waste if you call 0115 915 2000.

Safer communities

Crime and Safer Communities Partnership - met in September to hear about a drug house and one serious case of ASB that the Police were unaware of.

Phone Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111 to help in the fight against crime by passing on any information in confidence.

Drinking on Queens Walk - individuals were buying alcohol and consuming it on the benches at the south end of Queens Walk. The benches have been moved after consultation with local residents.

Rough sleeping - there are more instances of people sleeping rough in the ward. Action is being taken, including cleaning up the nature reserve surrounding Birdcage Walk (west of The Meadows).

Streetscene

In memoriam - a new bench is to be installed on the embankment near the toll bridge in memory of Councillor Ian MacLennan who passed away in August. We were touched to hear so many kind words spoken about Ian whilst visiting people during the by-election.

Tram - the Meadows Partnership Trust will be meeting with the tree officer, when appointed, to assess the independence of judgement on the viability of Queens Walk's trees.

New street lights - the replacement of Nottingham's street lighting has begun and works in parts of the Meadows and the city centre are scheduled for February to April. The existing black columns in the Old Meadows will be retained.

New handrail - we are hoping that a handrail will be installed on the short path to Thrumpton Drive bus stop on Robin Hood Way following a request from a resident after last year's cold snap.

Parking

Commuters - during the by-election many residents told us that parking should be reserved for them rather than commuters and football supporters. A full review will be conducted in preparation for the Workplace Parking Levy, which will encourage more people to use public transport.

Conduit Close - a residents' parking scheme has been agreed.

Bridgeway Shopping Centre - enforcement requested for the car park north of the centre.

Let us know

Nicola and Mike picked up many tens of requests for help during the by-election campaign.
