Sir Dennis Pettitt's funeral today

Attended Sir Dennis Pettitt's funeral today.

An occassion for sorrow, pride and gratitude.

Three former Chief Executives of Notts County Council attended,

Arthur Sandford, who went on to be Chief Executive of the Football League - http://www.debretts.com/people/biographies/browse/s/3201/Arthur+SANDFORD.aspx

Michael Lyons, who is now Chairman of the BBC - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Lyons_(BBC_chairman)

Peter Housden who is Permanet Secretary to the Scottish Government - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Housden - even though like me he is originally from Shropshire, although it is more remarkeable that he reached the top of the civil service without going to Oxford or Cambridge, and without having come from within the civil service.

They're all "sirs" now, but more telling is Nottinghamshire had such talent in those years as their Chief Executive.

Dennis' son Robert told the life story at the funeral, and former Nottingam East MP and former deputy leader, John Heppell, recanted the political achievements.

The reception was at Eastwood Town Football Club's social club; Dennis had been their Chairman.
