Nottingham East Labour Party has since 1992 been travelling in groups to visit other constituencies where elections are taking place to help sister labour parties, led by our then MP John Heppell. An award was given at the national conference in September, in recognition of the efforts made.

And today, after an eight-month break, the Tiger Squad was re-launched by new MP Chris Leslie, with a coach trip to Oldham East and Saddleworth. A great energy today with a year 10 science student, an AS-level theology student and a Student nurse in her last year of studies joining the party. A chance to see Ed Miliband and Debbie Abrahams at a campaign event.

Great day out and it feels OK.

The Guardian reports that Labour blitzed the constituency with 500 campaigners yesterday.

There were 3 by-election polls and whilst 2 show big Labour leads (17 points), one shows it being tight between Labour and the Lib Dems.

The surprise is that given the low ratings of the national polls, Labour's apparent gain is at the expense of the Conservatives. From this, Andrew Marr deduced the question for David Cameron was whether he took pleasure at the Lib Dems poor standing in the by-election race. Oh yes.
