Derby MP, Margaret Beckett, said two simple things very powerfully last night, that shows insight and proper understanding of the ConDems.
1. That David Cameron, invited to commit to the restoration of public services if and when the deficit is gone and the debt was on its way to being paid off, said "No"; so the cuts in public services are a matter of choice;
2. That Nick Clegg, far from changing his economic policy to get into power, had gone on public record that he had changed his mind about the tackling the deficit before the General Election, but had not said so in any of the campaign speeches or televised question times; in other words, he ran a campaign hiding the truth from the public.
Margaret made the points at an awards evening for Labour Party campaigners in the East Midlands.
Main speaker was John Healey MP, the new spokesperson on health. John who pointed out that far from the global crisis happening because of the policies the Labour party chose and the ConDems' deficit cuts plan being unavoidable, it was the global crash that was unavaoidable and the cuts planned by the ConDems that is a matter of choice.
Meanwhile, nice to meet Chris Williamson, the new Derby North MP who now speaks for the Labour Party on local government, and Toby Perkins MP for Chesterfield who now speaks on children's social care.
