2D trumps 3D

Nobel prizes were being announced recently and news of 2 Russians based in Manchester was covered on Chinese State Television, although I understand the winner of the peace prize a week later was not - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_Nobel_Peace_Prize

It's interesting that some time after 3D Carbon was finally manufactured, the expectation being that it would transform organic chemistry, it's 2D carbon - graphene, a layer of carbon one atom thick - that's won the prize.
