The Guardian is reporting a “volte-face”.
Bjørn Lomborg, 'Skeptical Environmentalist' and critic of climate scientists is to declare global warming a chief concern facing world today, explaining that $100bn a year needed to fight climate change. http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2010/aug/30/bjorn-lomborg-climate-change-u-turn
Perhaps a change of view on the level of -
Ronald Reagan’s on fighting nuclear wars - http://www.labourblogs.com/public-blog/michaeledwards/19820/ or
Alan Greenspan’s on the regulation of financial markets (“a humbled Mr. Greenspan admitted that he had put too much faith in the self-correcting power of free markets and had failed to anticipate the self-destructive power of wanton mortgage lending”)
Such about faces are welcome, if frustrating in part for the damage that has already been done.
It would be unreasonable to extent the term to British public opinion turning against the government less than four months into their term of office, but this was welcome news nevertheless. http://ukpollingreport.co.uk/blog/archives/2786
It’s unlikely, but it would be nice to George volte-face on keeping people in work, or Dave volte-face on achieving a big society through individuals volunteering. So far their volte-faces have consisted of saying “No top down re-organisation of the NHS” in their coalition agreement with the Lib Dems only to then propose and start to implement one.
