"History will be kind to us, for we intend to write it" said Lucozade, over a pan shot across a line of actors in England shirts.
Yeah, right. But still showing it six hours after the defeat.
It seems the combined might of Lucozade, Mars bars, Carlsberg lager, Tescos supermarkets and Marks & Spencer tailoring could do nothing to save us. (Note a Guardian journalist's take - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/jun/27/england-football-world-cup-fa)
The pundits weren't much better. having before the match said how player for player, you'd pick an England player nearly every time, and re-iterated that England had the experience over a German side that was perhaps too young, former members of England sides that delivered lamentable defeats against Portugal in Mexico 1986 and against Rumania in 1998 then proceeded to give lectures on how bad England had been.
The puff from the press this morning was also grim. The misery tomorrow will be worse.
It may well repeat the photo released of Cameron suffering whilst watching the match at the G20 conference.
And the result of that conference appears to echo the England performance - all playing as individuals, each choosing their own way, in this case for the economy. George Osborne calls that a result.
