The latest £1,000 million of cuts in investment announced by the ConDems on Thursday was depressing.
Never financed they claimed. Yet we know the borrowing figures announced as being set to be £10 billion lower for this year than that projected in March by the Labour government. And now there's fresh news that the borrowing is set to be a £2 billion lower still cos of actual figures published for borrowing in May.
Investment for future jobs and business has been cancelled. Cuts in year on spending public services - not on inefficiencies - are being made in year. And how much does it really save when we have to pay out redundancies and lose tax income, both direct and indirect.
Cameron's visit to a European Summit has the media emphasising a charm offensive to combat any perceptions picked up from local politics.
Whatever, it seems the focus on countries helping each other to secure economic recovery has been lost.
A point we had to make to Lib Dem Councillors on Monday.
Not sure where the Lib Dems can go these days.
Yesterday, I witnessed a Lib Dem Councillor condemn Conservative election posters causing fear about crime and anti-social behaviour, seemingly oblivious to what his party is now tied into.
Back to Monday's economic debate, the charge was that Gordon Brown's economic problems came from him not being Keynesian. But Keynesism in one country had never been viable since Francois Mitterand's economic policy was undermined by the international money markets, and only Brown could bring Keynesism back at the international level in a co-ordinated way.
And what Keynes could most be remembered for is Bretton Woods - getting a finance package together to rebuild Britain after the second World War, borrowing even more than we were already in debt.
Yes, we need to put people first and make the money work for us.
Unlike the views of former Nottinghamshire Conservative County Councillor, John Hayes, who as a Government Minister has said - Jobless should take up dancing or flower arranging http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/top-stories/2010/06/18/foxtrot-clot-115875-22341705/
Now this piece of advice doesn't even have the practical nature of looking for a job whilst cycling. Just how is it that right-wingers who are supposed to make government smaller find themselves giving people advice on how to lead more fulfilling lives. The penance required is obvious, and he should apologise by dancing with unemployed workers in public, dressed in flowers.
