How cheesy can it get. A prime minister, apparently trying to speak for the whole nation, weaves his call for viscious cuts - "we're all in this together" - into his message to the England team. Yuk.
As it happens, it doesn't really wiork for a British Prime Minister to speak for us all on this particular issue, cos I know enough Scotland supporters to know it's not true. I don't resent this. It's football and we're football rivals. I even know one Scot who was relieved that back in 1996, we didn't beat the Netherlands 5-1 instead of 4-1 ("we need a goal for Scotland"), so as to allow Scotland to reach the knock-out stage - he just didn't want to be indebted in that way.
Of course Steve Bell summed "we're all in this together" much more sweetly - http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2010/6/9/1276042184324 - in the Guardian.
And a Local Government Minister gave a very distinctive take on being in this together on Thursday -
"Robert Neill: Those in greatest need ultimately bear the burden of paying off the debt which this country has been left"
