A pleasant occasion today as close friend and ally Penny has been elected as the new Sheriff of Nottingham, just in time to welcome the new Robin Hood movie.

The meeting started at 5, so we missed Gordon Brown's announcement. Since he continues as PM, and continues as party leader until September, it's far too early to write assessments, but 2 TV versions I've seen both seemed to have overlooked his work in helped the third world, and his leading role in bringing the world's leaders together to get a reflationary package to deal with the recession.

The break from politics - oh yes - continued with watching twenty/20 cricket with England beating New Zealand. Apparently this is an England that might actually win a competition, which is something new. This despite some awful howlers in the field, so perhaps not so new.

Meanwhile, a reminder of Gordon Brown at his best, at the event at London on the monday before the election.

Also, speeches made in Nottingham and Manchester.
