Oh Lordy, it's the Tory Party.
Apparently frustrated at centrally imposed initiatives on local government, they today announce that 12 cities will have elected Mayors. It would have been 13, but 13th was Stoke.
Still they have moderated their stance. I had the privilege of seeing one of their earlier papers which was exploring how they could ensure that three-quarters of such elected mayors went to Eton.
(P.S. No criticsim implied, but why is Wakefield in the top 12? (source, BBC); did they mean Wolverhampton (which according to Wikipedia (I know) has 4 times the population and also begins with "W"?))
