Getting people registered to vote;
I’m finding as many as 1 in four houses have got the wrong details; and significant parts of the ward are hugely under-registered; I’ve sent a letter to the NEP and asked that they report it.
Checking the street scene;
Have tried to react to new spates of graffiti as quickly as possibly; for instance huge ‘signatures’ on Trent House on Woodborough Road have been cleaned off.
And certain areas have been cleaned – land bank at junction of Magdala Road and Woodborough Road; steps between Penarth Rise and Park View;
A couple of missing street name plates have been reported – Gorsey Road and Thirlmere Close; 3 months delivery time;
I also check blocked gully pots, which cleaners can often not reach cos of parked cars;
Helping with the roll out of the 3rd bin for recycling;
A range of concerns arising from meeting the public;
And there is quite a wide range;
Previous themes have included -
Safety and mtce. work for The Wells Road;

Checking the street scene;
Co-Councillor Mo Munir and I toured the eastern half of the ward, and then Mapperley Park, in September to collate street scene concerns.
Safety and mtce. work for The Wells Road;
Further safety measures for The Wells Road (following the latest fatal accident) have been resolved. The Council started the work in November. The work will be combined with the road maintenance works and resurfacing of the pavements. Details on 2 or 3 details of the work are to be resolved.
Public consultation on the draft Management Plan for the Mapperley Park and Alexandra Park Conservation Area;
Public consultation on the draft Management Plan for the Mapperley Park and Alexandra Park Conservation Area has begun. The Management Plan seeks to establish guidelines to retain and protect the older buildings in the Area; to retain and promote family housing; to control extensions to existing properties so that they remain in keeping with the Area; to make adequate provision for car parking whilst protecting the local landscape; protecting traditional boundary walls and mature trees; and, to protect open spaces particularly large mature garden areas and existing sports grounds. This Management Plan will be the subject of a public consultation exercise, commencing on 1st September through to 31st October and we are proposing to hold a public meeting to discuss the Management Plan on Wednesday 18th October at 7.00 pm in St Jude’s Church Hall. Copies of the management plan are available for inspection at the Council’s offices (Exchange Buildings North); at Sherwood Library on Spondon Street and at St. Ann's Library on Robin Hood Chase and should be available on the Council’s website (www.plan4nottingham.com).Residents are objecting to an enlarged house proposed for Mapperley Hall Drive; concerns include size and height of the building, protection for trees and care for the site.
Fuel Poverty analysis suggests action required for many older properties with cavity walls; take up of grants available to private landlords is low cos of lack of awareness;
Seeking more powers to enforce law against vehicles parked and obstructing the pavement;
Some residents have been very frustrated by drivers parking vehicles on pavements when there is no clear need and when it would obstruct a pavement to a person in a wheelchair or a parent pushing a child in a buggy. I'm exploring whether we can have a change to allow such "obstruction" to be enforceable by the City Council's own wardens.
Supporting the roll-out of the 3rd bin for better collection of separated waste for recycling;
Generally this is proving popular; but there are lots of questions and some households don't believe they've receiuved a leaflet; see my web-page for further information and take up the offer to phone the Council if you have unanswered questions or need help in managing 3 bins;
Following up various concerns for the Springwood Gardens estate;
Residents of Springwood Gardens estate are acute to the sale of a strip of land above the estate, off Woodthorpe Drive. Planning permission had previously been goivem for a nursery. The stability of the bank and impact on wildlife will be of concern. Meanwhile, the money for securing the Woodthorpe Road bank is confirmed and number of issues concerning the "MyBus" have been followed up. The graffiti on the rear of the garages serving Hawley Mount has been removed. Improvements to the pavements began on 31st July.
Also -
Action on anti-social behaviour in a house on Woodborough Road (now boarded up).
Removed an abandoned but taxed car from Folkton Gardens that was both being damaged and attracting criminal activity to the area; and then one from Boynton Drive.
Doing some walks to find and report a number of neighbourhood issues -
May 7th - walk from Astley Drive to Coppice Grove park to Byford Close;
Easter Tuesday - walked around City Heights, Porchester Road, Burgass Road, Carlton Road and The Wells Road.
Various issues have been picked up following John Heppell MP's roving surgery of Mapperley Park and the Mapperley Park Residents Association AGM.
Mo Munir and I ran a special exercise in January 2006, touring the ward and reporting over 212 examples of graffiti. Many of these have now been cleaned up.
We also reported failed street lights as part of the survey.
