Ron Bell

Ron Bell, Mapperley branch party member and resident of Mapperley Park, died on 2nd October 2006.  A memorial service was held at St.Jude's Church in Mapperley.  The service was addressed by Ted Cantle and Canon Eddie Neale and was attended by his wide family, including great-grandchildren from Germany. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lesley and their 2 daughters, Jane and Ruth. Ron was a civil engineer and became Regional Director of Transport for the East Midlands.  His work varied greatly over the years, from getting the concrete construction of new roads through Wolverhampton right, to the implementation of early computerised traffic controls systems, to helping the transport policies of capital city of Paraguay, Asunción. He was well read, influential and offered wise counsel. He was a strong socialist. He had a strong love of cars and planes. Born in Hull in 1930, he served as a pilot with the RAF during his national services in the early fifties. He served as a Magistrate on Nottingham’s bench for 30 years.
