MyBus

MyBus

A demand responsive bus service, travelling between Sherwood and Mapperley Plains shopping centres, particularly important for the residents of the Springwood Gardens estates, introduced in April 2003.

The first of its type in the city, its success has encouraged similar services elsewhere.

A FREE SERVICE TO ALL USERS - The service is available free of charge to all users.  A free service was introduced cos 95% of users were elderly or disabled passholders.  Making the service free to all should encourage other passengers to use it as a "link" bus to the core bus services available at Sherwood or on Woodborough Road.

ANNUAL COST OF THE SERVICE - Around £50,000 per year to operate.  The scheme was made possible through extra grant donated to the City Council given its commitment to tackle congestion, including plans to introduce Workplace Parking Levy.

Latest news  ....

PATRONAGE ON THE SERVICE - This stands at around 2,000 passengers per month (80 per day; double the figures achieved when the service was first introduced).

June was a bumper month this year (2,158 passengers compared to 1,848 for June in 2005)

DRIVER'S PAY - Nottingham Community Transport Ltd have agreed to increase the wages of the 2 MyBus drivers in line with National Joint Council agreed payscales.  This will be back-dated to April 2006.

BUS CAGE AT THE BUS STOP OPPOSITE THE PLAINSMAN IN WOODTHORPE DRIVE The County Council has marked out the bus stop serving Mapperley Plains shopping centre, to deter car drivers from parking at the stop.

Sometimes you don’t want to wait at a bus stop. You might have heavy luggage, or young children, or you simply might not feel up to it.

Help is at hand. MyBus follows a basic route around Mapperley and Sherwood. But if you live on one of the streets just off the route - and you’d like it to come and call for you personally - just phone up and it will come as close as it can.

Main route is Sherwood Shopping Centre - Winchester Street - Winchester Court & Woodthorpe Court - Sherwood Vale - Mapperley Plains Shopping Centre - Woodthorpe Drive (alongside Woodthorpe Park).  Key pick-up and drop-off streets include Sherwood Health Centre, Springwood Gardens and the Penarth estate.

How do I use MyBus?

If you live along the main route, just wait at your nearest bus stop as usual. There is no need to book. If you live in the neighbouring streets and you’d like MyBus to pick you up, phone 0800 328 3497, give your house details to the operator and the bus will turn off the main route to come as close as it can. Bookings can be taken up to 7 days in advance, right up until an hour before you want it to call for you and your phone call is free. Lines are open 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday.

Please note - MyBus cannot go into cul-de-sacs or dead-end streets for safety and operational reasons. If you live on one of these you can meet MyBus at the through road that is nearest to you, the operator will tell you where.

Who can use MyBus?

Anyone! MyBus is a normal bus with a low floor and no steps - handy if you have a disability or if you’re travelling with children. If you use a wheelchair, please book in advance on 0800 328 3497 so that we can make sure there is space for you.  MyBus has been designed to connect with major bus routes at Mapperley and Sherwood where frequent Go2 services go to the City Centre.

For links to the City Hospital, service 40 is available every 15 minutes at Sherwood.
