Here’s a quick summary of news, events and casework for June 2006
29th – attend non-nuclear authorities conference at Notts County Hall; Friends of the Earth explain that nuclear power replacement programme does not have a significant impact on CO2 emissions, given the reductions required;
28th – Elliott Durham full governors;
28th – Nottinghamshire Police has been declared efficient and effective after a comprehensive inspection by Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary (HMIC); the HMIC declare that the force had made “substantial, practical advancement” in five out of six key areas; Inspectors also quashed Nottingham’s media reputation as “gun crime capital of the UK”, describing it as “undeserved” and “damaging";
26th – full Council; including The Annual Report; announce extension to City Card scheme;
23rd – One Nottingham board meet at the Robin Hood Community Chase Centre;
22nd – Nottingham Express Transit wins national award for regeneration;
22nd – the newly formed Woodlane Gardens Tenants and Residents Association (representing the interests of the residents of Pearmain Drive estate) publish a new web-site;
21st – meet the FA to ask for the Women's FA Cup to be held in Nottingham as part of a weekend of women's football events next May - in the Square on Saturday and at Victoria Embankment on the Sunday;
20th – Executive Board; year-end finance and the progress on performance;
19th – meet 5 Councillors from Northern Ireland to talk about public services reform and performance management;
14th – 15th – CIPFA conference in Harrogate; good presentations on reforming public services, improving performance, and managing finances;
13th – progress in Nottingham during 2005/06 published; over 3/4rs of the Council's performance indicators have improved over the last 3 years;
10th – High Wood Cemetery opened, providing the city with enough space for burials for at least the next 40 years; covers a peaceful 40-acre former agricultural site in Low Wood Road, Bulwell, and incorporates part of the ancient woodlands;
10th – extended doorstep recycling launched in neighbouring Sherwood;
6th – Enviro-Energy board meeting; tour London Road power station site; number of customers for heat is growing;
5th – an £800,000 project to improve peak-time bus journeys on the A60 Mansfield Road starts; the road will be widened in Carrington and Sherwood between the A611 Hucknall Road and Haydn Road to provide a peak-time bus lane in each direction; other improvements include changing three pedestrian crossings at the junctions of Tavistock Drive, Church Drive and Devon Drive to 'smart' crossings with motion sensors to detect how long people need to cross the road; the scheme is expected to take 16 weeks to complete two-way traffic will continue but there will be some off-peak lane closures;
4th – Green Festival, at the Arboretum; good attendance;
Also consultation on The Wells Road road safety proposals started.
