Pearmain Drive estate

Pearmain Drive estate is now part of the new Mapperley ward, having been neglected by the Greeenwood ward Tory Cllrs who represented for 3 years.

A new Tenants and Resident's Group started in June - the Woodlane Gardens Tenants and Residents Association and they have lauched a new web-site

I've toured the estate every 1 or 2 months since being elected to represent the estate and progress has been made for a number of reasons.

- - -

A number of factors have come together to improve the estate -

1. tackling an anti-social family that were a focus for a lot of unpleasant activity; one resident deserves great credit for taking a firm stand on this and City Council legal officers were effective in the work they did;

2. moving to more housing patch officers with general responsibilities, such that that officer can have a smaller patch and be more on top of all the issues that residents have and have more time to meet appointments made to discuss issues;

3. a dramatic improvement in housing benefits service;

4. an investment programme improving the security of homes and the quality of homes;

5. improved performance by our Neighbourhood Services; including sorting out tipping and a few physical land problems (e.g. damage to an embankment);

6. all being helped by the conversion of a derelict industrial area (with a ready supply of materials for people to cause mischief with) to a new housing estate (called the Harlequins).

All helped I hope by monthly or bi-monthly visits from Mapperley Councillors, with Housing and Neighbourhood Service Managers.

Issues are - completing the rennovation of the estate, improving lighting to make it feel safer to walk and park cars in formal car parks, reviewing the playground's equipment and discouraging parking on Woodlane Gardens.
