Shooting of PC Rachael Bown
I am both angered that anyone should draw a gun on a Police Officer and relieved that her injuries aren’t even more serious. I trust that she makes a full recovery and its good to she's back home.
The City Council and the Police have been working together in tackling gun crime, which has seen a fall in firearms-related injuries in the city from 77 to 11 in the last 48 months. Gun crime is an increasingly rare occurrence in Nottingham.
There is a "Get Well" card to sign at the Council House.
From Nottice Nottingham (24th) - Great news that Pc Rachael Bown was well enough to go home to complete her recovery last night. She’ll soon be receiving hundreds of messages of support and goodwill from well-wishers after a Get Well card was placed in the Council House reception and online at www.nottinghamcity.gov.uk.

Background information.

There has been no fatal shooting in the City of Nottingham since March 2005.
The number of firearms injuries in the whole of the county of Nottinghamshire fell from 77 in 2003 to 43 in 2004 to 11 last year.
Latest Home Office figures show that all gun crime has fallen in Nottinghamshire by 16.5%, down for the second year running.
The Home Office’s Violent Crime Overview, Homicide and Gun Crime 2004/5 report shows that Nottinghamshire is one of only 13 areas in the country that has seen a reduction in gun crime over the last year.
These successes are the result of more effective partnership working by the Police, the City Council and other agencies, some significant arrests and tougher sentencing. Sensational headlines or broadcast media coverage suggesting Nottingham has an exceptional problem with gun crime are not accurate. Nottingham has suffered a number of high profile gun crimes in recent years but guns are no more common in Nottingham than in any other big city and the vast majority of people who live and work here will never see one.
