Mapperley ward census NOT FINISHED

TO BE PROPERLY LOADED

When I first stood to represent Mapperley ward, I expressed concern about the huge inequalities to be found in society, and indeed within Mapperley ward.

Since then, significant steps have been taken on social issues, including significant reductions in unemployment.

However there is still more to do; and the best understanding of how Mapperley compares with the rest of England on a number of key criteria is presented below.

Some care has to be taken with the interpretation of data, some of which is already relatively old.

Although the text is based on reports from City Council officers, the responsibility for the format in which it is published here is mine.

THE ENGLISH INDICES OF DEPRIVATION 2004

Background

The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) published the Indices of Deprivation 2004 on 17th June. The indices are an important resource to aid policy development and area working. They can be used to prioritise areas most in need of services, they can help to determine the most appropriate services for a given area, they can help to compare the characteristics of one area with another, and they can be used to support funding bids. The 2000 Indices were used by the Government as the basis for allocating Neighbourhood Renewal funds and for many other funding purposes, and it is likely that this will continue to be the case with the 2004 Indices.

This report summarises the results for Mapperley ward. GRAPHICs to be LOADED from 20050228w2300 307 Mapperley ward census - Michael Edwards - Councillor, Mapperley Ward Further information
