NCT's colours in Mapperley

Buses: NCT's new coloured routes and branded bus services. Patronage of the Lime 58 and the Red 44/45 Circular is growing.  (NCT are reviewing the number of services being run in the peak hours to see if more services are required). Red buses from Queen Street to Mapperley are now numbered 45 and run every 10 minutes from 6:45 in the morning to 6:45 in the evening.  Inbound are numbered 44. The Lime 58 service along Mansfield Road to Arnold runs every 10 minutes from 7:53 to 18:03; its frequency is effectively doubled by the operation of the Lime 57 & 59. The Purple services to Rise Park also serve Mansfield Road along Mapperley Park.  The Yellow and Brown serve Mansfield Road alongside the Forest Recreation Ground.  The Blue 40 and 40a runs the length of The Wells Road and Mapperley Rise and runs every 15 minutes from 7:05 from town to 18:05.

The Blue 41 runs as far as the terminus on Kildare Road; there may be a case for running it into Mapperley (up Ransom Road and down The Wells Road).  The Blue 42also runs to the Kildare Road terminus but via the Ransom Road estate. The 22 serves Sherwood Vale 7 times a day each way (Monday-Friday), at hourly intervals and runs along Thorneywood Mount.

The Lilac 21 serves Porchester Road and Thorneywood Mount.

Thorneywood is also served by buses running along Carlton Road including the Lilac 25, 26 and 27.   Bus services now start earlier and finish later, with a new range of NightRider services. However, NCT struggled with a shortage of drivers for some years after the changes which frustrated the new services and plans for expansion.  They have now reached a full complement.

Expanding on the above ... A 21st Century NCT NCT have introduced their new coloured routes and branded bus services. This includes the combination of the old 20 & 50 and a new ‘Red' circular. Clockface timings from town Red Buses from Queen Street to Mapperley are now numbered 45 and run every 10 minutes from 6:45 in the morning to 6:45 in the evening; they are then quarter hourly for an hour, before becoming half-hourly with an extra service at 2 minutes past midnight (services now start earlier and finish earlier). Lime Similarly, the Lime 58 service along Mansfield Road runs every 10 minutes from 7:53 to 18:03, although its frequency is effectively doubled by the operation of the Lime 57 & 59. The Purple services to Rise Park also serve Mansfield Road and Sherwood shops. Blue The Blue Line largely serves Kildare Road, but the extended service to City Hospital running the length of the Wells Road and Mapperley Rise is doubled in frequency to every 15 minutes from 7:05 from town to 18:05, when it becomes half-hourly. Service 22 The 22 serves Winchester & Woodthorpe Courts and Sherwood Vale 7 times a day each way, on an hourly frequency (although there may be some disappointment that this doesn't run on Saturday). “Go 2” The Red, Lime & Lilac services are described as “Go 2” cos of their 10 minute or better frequencies; buses serving the route are guaranteed to be low-floor services and painted in the new liveries of white, with the front fifth of the bus painted in the colour of the route and marked with a tube style map of the route. New shop NCT have opened a new shop in the South Parade and issued 2 million timetables in the run-up to the change on September 30th, 2001. £15 million investment From 2002, NCT were investing £15 million in new buses over the next five years. They are adopting an imaginative strategy for growth in passenger numbers, geared to winning the commuter who uses the car back to the bus.

NCT won 'Bus operator of the year' in 2004. (Last updated - 2005-02-24)
