Here’s a quick summary of news, events and casework for July 2004

30th -  Notts Local Authorities Association;

29th - Labour wins the Derby Mackworth City Council by-election;

28th -  Collection of Council tax is currently meeting the new, more challenging targets;

26th -  Nottingham ALMO ballot ends; 76% in favour on a 40% turnout;    

26th Full Council - debate on capping / re-billing and the health service;

23rd – East Midlands Regional Assembly;

21st - Lithuanian National Opera perform "Don Giovanni" at the Royal Centre;

20th -  Mapperley and Sherwood Area Committee;  £750k of extra investment in local projects confirmed (using Neighbourhood Renewal Funds); and Local Transport Plan allocations - money for Mansfield Road reconstruction between Gregory Boulevard and Magdala Road junction exceeds sum of money available for road repairs for the whole city in 1996/97;

20th Executive Board - agree next stages for redevelopment of Leisure Centres, including next steps towards the Mapperley Sports Village; 

20th -  John Prescott confirms that at least £133m of the £165m bid for housing investment via the ALMO is guaranteed, with the rest to be decided in September; countering claims of those who've said there would be no money available;

19th -  Parliament debates capping order requiring Nottingham City Council to re-bill;

13th -  NET Development Board; NET carries on average 23,000 passengers on a weekday; over 500,000 a month; and are set to run more services in September;

12th -  Gordon Brown announces Comprehensive Spending Review; economy set to continue growing, with extra resources to be directed to Education, Health and Community Safety;

5th -  Nottingham Primary Parliament; 20 primary schools send 2 delegates each to debate how good design makes better schools and neighbourhoods and creates more jobs;

3rd John Heppell's Roving Surgery in Mapperley Park, Alexandra Park and Woodborough Road parts of Mapperley ward;

6th - 9th - LGA conference;  Gov't announce Nott'm is to be required to re-bill on 8th July, requiring £250,000 of Council taxpayers' money to be lost on the re-billing process;

1st Elliott Durham full governors; Key Stage 3 results for Maths And science significantly up and above target;
