Quick points from the Mapperley Park Residents Association Annual General meeting follow.
New anti-prostitution task force announced.
At the 2004 AGM of the Mapperley Park Residents Association, City Police commander Les Kominiak announced the formation of a new and dedicated anti-prostitution unit, to start in June.
On top of the new dedicated units for tackling ASB, the mobile task force will consist of a Sergeant, 2 PCs, 2 Police Community Safety Officers and 2 neighbourhood wardens, who can also call on various support workers. They will focus on the people making residents lives a misery.
The unit will use the new powers available, including the issues of Anti-Social Behaviour orders upon kerb-crawlers and potentially, the withdrawal of a kerb-crawlers' driving licence.
Les also reported that the Police's meeting set out response times had increased to 80% for urgent calls and 83% for priority calls.
Les acknowledged problems in more routine visits to the public and the need to keep new deterrence boards updated with the number of arrests.

Other points of note - The work of the City Council's Area Cttee. was welcomed - its benefit was "significant"; Planning - the MPRA welcomed the City Council's appraisal of the Mapperley Park and Alexandra Park Conservation Area; this had been delayed slightly cos the officer had had to support an appeal for a planning application in Sherwood Rise, but the draft statement is due by the end of April. Alexandra Court - Emma Dewinton reported that the unit will close later this month. Her work with multi-agency groups had ensured a lot of action. [Updated 2004-04-07]
