Compact
- The Voluntary Sector is a vital partner in the development and delivery of local services.
- It is both a delivery mechanism and a source of new ideas.
- In launching this COMPACT we recognise the importance of the Voluntary Sector.
- We hope that it will strengthen and revitalise relationships with the Voluntary Sector.
Why is it important?
- The Voluntary Sector adds value to the work of Nottingham City Council.
- It has specialist skills needed to provide services.
- Specialist knowledge of local needs.
- Groups have a depth of knowledge where the City Council has a breadth of knowledge.
- Their ability to secure assets for public benefit.
- Potential to engage hard to reach groups (both finding them and giving specific help).
Together with the Voluntary sector we can support the Neighbourhood Renewal agenda and promote active citizenship.
What is in the COMPACT?
The COMPACT sets out the principles governing the City Council’s relationship with the voluntary sector.
It clarifies the relationship and sets out standards designed to ensure that the relationship continues to grow.
It is the blueprint for delivering high quality, properly targeted, services to the residents of Nottingham.
The Launch of the COMPACT is the start of the process not an end of one.
The COMPACT is a living document. It will change as we work together and as circumstances alter.
I will be interested to see how far we progress in the next 12 to 18 months.
I will also be following the progress of the Implementation Group which is supporting this COMPACT. It will be informative to see their recommendations.
By making the most of our joint professionalism, knowledge and skills, we will be able to improve the way we deliver services to the people of Nottingham.
This is an exciting time. It is our chance to improve the lives of many of the people in Nottingham.
This is why I am active in politics, and why most of you do the jobs you do.
This is our chance to make a difference.
