A Safe City
Labour believes that everyone should be able to live their lives free from the fear of crime, and that's why this is one of our key priorities. With the police, we will make Nottingham a safer city - a Labour City.
Achievements
Supported a successful crackdown on drug and gun crime through Operation Stealth
Cracked down on nuisance behaviour through use of Injunctions, Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and a New tenancy agreement as well as Task Force Action days on estates.
Established a new CCTV monitoring centre
Reduced truancy through a full time Truancy Sweep Team
Pioneered burglar alarms paid for through council rent
Installed 3220 new street lights in the last 2 years
Considerably reduced re-offending rates among young people through the work of the Youth Offending Team.
Received an award for our work in reducing Youth Prostitution
Provided an Anti social behaviour officer in every housing branch office
Introduced City Centre Wardens
Increased speed with which young people are dealt with in court
Introduced a Change programme for kerb crawlers
A Clean City
Labour believes in a city we can all take pride in, with well cared for streets, decent community parks and less pollution. Nottingham deserves to be a clean city - a Labour city.
Achievements
Removing abandoned cars from the streets of Nottingham: This year alone 2900 cars were removed within 48 hours of notification
Ensuring Nottingham's Bus shelters are cleaned at least every 10 working days
Making environmental work on estates a priority, through improving fencing, lighting and paving.
Achieving two green flag awards, through our commitment to better maintained parks
Making our vehicles cleaner and better for the environment. By increased use of LPG in our vehicle fleet, and use of electric vans for our building cleaning section.
Carrying out 46,000 special collections of bulky items per year, helping to keep Nottingham streets clean and tidy
Carrying out garden maintenance for the elderly adding to a pleasant environment
A Green City
Labour believes in developing the city whilst maintaining people's quality of life, believing a green environment is important to all of us. Nottingham will continue to be a Green City - a Labour City.
Achievements
Won the prestigious 2002 'Local Transport Authority of the Year' title
Introduced the popular Blue Bag recycling pilot scheme in parts of the city
Gained the highest award - Green Flag Status - for two city parks
Oversaw the £1 million Arboretum improvement scheme
Increased Bus usage by 2 million journeys a year in 2002
Saw the establishment of six local nature reserves across the city
Became the first gas installer in the country to reach the efficient gas installation standard
Established city centre 'Clear Zone', helping to reduce pollution, and make the city centre a more enjoyable shopping environment
Continued to gain national acclaim for our work in Nottingham in Bloom
Made 'Green' ideas central to the construction of the National Ice Stadium, which gets all its power from the incineration of Nottingham’s rubbish
A Modern City
Labour believes that we need a growing and vibrant economy, creating jobs for local people, with a dynamic city centre at the heart of a prosperous modern city - a Labour City.

Gaining Beacon status for 'City Centre Regeneration' as well as 'Regeneration through Culture and Sport'
The National Ice Centre, regenerating the east-side of the city, with this state of the art facility
Transforming Nottingham into one of the top three shopping centres in the UK
Refurbishing Bilborough Library and building a new community centre
Introducing a 24 hour Housing Repairs Call Centre, making it easier to contact the council.
Southglade leisure centre an excellent new facility in the north of the city.
Erecting over seven miles of fencing in Nottingham last year alone, making Nottingham a smarter city
Creating a new museum collection centre in Bilborough
Creating an IT centre at Clifton, as well as refurbishing Clifton library
A Fairer City
Labour believes in sharing the prosperity of the city and in allowing everyone to benefit from opportunities created by the city's growth, making this a fairer city - a Labour City.

Nottingham has the best Concessionary Fares Scheme in the region
Most improved Primary schools in the country, as well as the biggest reduction in truancy in the country
8 Sure Start Schemes set up in the city, helping to give Nottingham children the best possible start
100 more teachers and 300 more learning assistants in Nottingham schools than in 1997
Improving people's health through schemes such as 'Changing Faces and Places' and 'Leisure on Prescription' and the 'Healthy Schools Strategy'
Books for Babies scheme - introducing children to books at an early age.
Educational Work through the Theatre Royal and the Football Clubs, working to make learning fun.
The Jack Dawe Scheme, helping people with dementia to continue living at home
