Labour’s sound economic management means

Improved services for Nottingham

Steady economic growth and reduced unemployment has released money to provide better public services.

Better schools

An extra £700 per year is being spent for each pupil. Nottingham’s schools are the most improved at key stage 2. £50 million has been spent on buildings and new heating systems since 1998, including the new classrooms being built at Walter Halls school.

Two stars

Social Services continues to improve with recent inspections judging the Council to be serving most people well, with good prospects for continued improvement.

More Police

Nottingham now has the highest number of Police officers ever to tackle crime. 38 more staff are being employed to deal with phone calls and the Police’s radio system is to be improved this month.

The Council has set up an Anti-Social Behaviour team who use “Anti-Social Behaviour Orders” and “Notices Seeking Possession” to tackle households causing problems.

Safer routes to school

Road safety schemes have been provided, with a special focus on safer routes to school for children.

Traffic calming for Mapperley Park has been introduced with wide public support. Improved crossings on The Wells Road have been introduced, with new measures being built on Woodborough Road and planned for Porchester Road and Ransom Road.

Oh Dear! Tories lose their Road Sense

Signs bad for the Tories Local Conservatives found two dirty traffic signs in Mapperley ward and rushed to print with the news. Unfortunately, they don’t appear to have reported the problem to the City Council. Labour Councillors have reported the “School” sign to the Council and it has been cleaned – before rushing to print. Labour - getting things done Council officers check lighting, inspect signs and look for potholes on a regular basis. Nevertheless, problems can be missed and Labour Councillors have acted on a number of issues recently – Fallen street tree removed from Ebers Road; abandoned fridges removed from Abbey Grove and Agnes Villas; burned out car and dumped mattress removed from Brewsters Road; dumped mattress removed from Gorsey Road; dumped settee removed from Pearmain Drive; Querneby Road pavements patched and building waste removed; removal of lighting column and clearance of drain on Belvoir Street; footpath resurfaced on Hawley Mount; and silted drains on Zulla Road cleared.
