Waste Notts

The Labour Group has resolved to proceed further with plans to sell the County's waste disposal company, Waste Notts.

This is to raise money to reduce the impact of lack of government support for local services, and to allow the company to grow free from the restrictions that apply to local government finances. Will Hutton says ..

"taxation as a proportion of national output, runs at 37.5 per cent. In Europe, only the Greeks pay less.

"By European standards, Britain is already a low tax country. Ordinary individuals pay a disproportionate amount of tax, but that's because the taxation of rich and corporate Britain is so extraordinary light. Inheritance Tax is regarded as largely voluntary by the wealthy; Capital Gains Tax is widely avoided; and most British companies have overseas tax havens, through which they minimise their tax."
