Published 27th May, 1994. John Smith had died on the 12th May. Note, a new member - Richard Watts - who has gone on to lead Hackney Council in London. John Smith.
I hope over the months and years we can build on John Smith's vision for a socially just society based on employment.
This would be the most fitting way to honour his memory.
Leadership.
What a shame certain Labour M.P.s couldn't keep off T.V. during the days following John Smith's death.
We face an interesting few weeks as 4.5 million of people will now have a say in who our future leader should be.
We need to ask ourselves what we are looking for in a leader.
…
Campaign Work.
I think it was right to stop campaigning work.
Now we have to work even harder to meet and talk to people before the election.
Please do all you can to help over the next few weeks.
…
We currently have …. promises with a further …. promises from previous elections.
Membership.
Welcome to Richard Watts and ...
Sherwood Vale.
A crash on Tuesday, 17th May got coverage in the Evening Post.
Sherwood Vale is currently 18th in the priority list and I will report further when this year's list is published.
If Sherwood Vale is not sufficiently highly ranked, I'll ask for intermediate measures to be investigated.
Elliott Durham.
The Ofsted report into the school has been published and a summary document has been circulated to parents.
The school does under achieve BUT this can be broadly explained by the school's intake.
The school's leadership is praised, but there is concern that teachers might "under-expect"; that the school does not have high enough aspirations for the children.
The recently announced City Challenge scheme will be focusing on this matter in particular.

Police Annual Report.
The Chief Constable has again stressed the problems for residents, police, courts and social workers dealing with repetitive juvenile offenders.
It will be interesting to see what impact the review of residential children services has on juvenile crime by reducing the places in homes through increasing foster parenting.
Drugs.
Panorama's programme on drugs in West Yorkshire and their Chief Constable's call for a re-think on drugs and drugs education was interesting.
Notts. Chief Constable opposes decriminalisation of cannabis.
Controversy.
Woodthorpe Park Festival and Stall.
I held a stall at the festival at Woodthorpe Grange on Sunday, 22nd May.
Attendance was low because of the poor weather and advertising.
Nevertheless, the stall attracted a lot of attention and I was talking to people non-stop from 2pm to 4:30.
Bradbury & Ross.
Tory City Councillors Bradbury and Ross tried to get the stall stopped, rather than to take advantage of an offer to have a stall of their own.
We may accept that these Tory City Councillors don't like the Labour Party.
But we cannot accept them ducking the opportunity to meet and discuss local issues with people they represent.
This will be the main theme of our next Labour Forward.
Interest.
Main issues of interest was development at the park & traffic calming.
People still don't know the Orbital Road is being stopped.
Caunton Avenue.
I have asked for the road to be re-assessed for re-surfacing.
Nursery Education.
In anticipation of yet another Government statement outlining the advantages of nursery education for all, the Education Cttee. is to produce a report to assess the practicalities and money required to achieve this in Notts. in five years.
