Bernard Crick has died.
Among many things, he was the author of “In Defence of Politics” (which ‘championed the political system as the only tested alternative to government by coercion’) and a text book on Socialism for the Open University.
The Guardian obituary picks up on other achievements, including his biography of George Orwell and his work on the citizenship.
I might have liked to have called myself a “Crick-ite”, but it would have cut across the very things he was trying to convey.
